Thanks for your interest in my presentation. Here are notes which I hope will help with setting up for it.

The short version: if your A/V setup has a VGA plug, and it probably does, then I'll plug my laptop into that and we should be in good shape.

For all the gory specifics, read on:

The images for the presentation are on my laptop in Keynote (Apple’s presentation software, akin to PowerPoint). The presentation includes images only; there is no audio component. There are two ways to show the presentation:

1. From my computer

I'll bring my laptop and a VGA adaptor. If we can use that to connect to your projector, then we're in good shape. This is the best option, especially if the setup allows me to see the laptop display from where I'm speaking. (Seeing the laptop display lets me see which slide that is coming up next.)

2. From your computer

If option 1 is not available but you have a Mac connected to your A/V system, I can transfer my presentation onto that computer. I'll bring a USB flash drive for transferring the file. You agree not to copy the presentation and to delete it following my visit.

For this approach, the application Keynote '09 will need to be installed on your computer. Macs ship with a trial version of the program, so if you have a Mac you probably already have Keynote. Look in Applications > Keynote (or Applications > iWork > Keynote) to check. The trial version cannot be used to create presentations, but it can be used to show presentations, so it's fine for our purposes. If you have a Mac but don't have Keynote, the trial version is available as a free download from Apple on this web page.

Please note

Tech support is not my favorite part of a presentation, and it's probably not yours, either, but please make time in advance to see that the equipment will be ready on the day of the visit. Usually things go smoothly, but it's frustrating for everyone when a presentation is delayed because someone waits to realize that they have Cable X, when they need Cable Y, and so on.

Please feel free to contact me with questions.

Thank you!
